Preparation
Oranex Capsule: Each capsule contains Tranexamic Acid BP 500 mg.
Indication
1. Fibrinolysis may occur in conditions:
- Prostatectomy and bladder surgery
- Menorrhagia
- Epistaxis
- Haematuria
- Conisation of the cervix
- Management of dental extraction in patients with coagulopathies
2. Hereditary angioneurotic oedema
Contraindication
Tranexamic Acid is contraindicated in patients with-
Active thromboembolic diseaseSubarachnoid haemorrhage
Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients
Dosage & Administration
Prostatectomy: 2-3 capsules orally 3 to 4 times daily until macroscopic haematuria is no longer present
Menorrhagia: 2-3 capsules orally 3 to 4 times daily for three to four days
Epistaxis: 3 capsules orally 3 times daily for four to ten days
Haematuria: 2-3 capsules orally 2 to 3 times daily until macroscopic haematuria is no longer present
Conisation of the Cervix: 3 capsules orally 3 times a day for twelve to fourteen days
post-operatively Dental surgery in patients with coagulopathies: Before surgery, 10 mg/kg body weight and after surgery, 25 mg/kg body weight are given orally 3 to 4 times daily for six to eight days
Hereditary angioneurotic oedema: 2-3 capsules orally two to three times daily
Patients with renal insufficiency: Use more cautiously
Children dosage: 25 mg/Kg, 2 to 3 times daily for seven to ten days. Children should be above 15 years
Side Effect
Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache and rarely allergic skin reactions.
Precaution
Patients with irregular menstrual bleeding, a high risk of thrombosis, disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), who require treatment with it must be under the strict supervision. In the long-term treatment of patients, regular eye examination should be performed. If a color vision disorder should occur during the course of treatment, the drug should be discontinued.
Use In Pregnancy And Lactation:Pregnancy Category B. Tranexamic Acid crosses the placenta. Clinical experience of use in pregnant women is limited. Animal studies have not supplied any evidence of an increased incidence of fetal damage. Tranexamic Acid is excreted into breast milk, but it is not likely to influence the child at therapeutic doses.
Drug Interaction
Clinically important interactions have not been observed with Tranexamic Acid.
